Ruiter Construction has been active in the Ottawa area since 1982 and in 2007 we celebrated our 25th anniversary. Ruiter has grown steadily since our inception and now maintains a high profile in the Ottawa Construction Industry. We are a General Contracting firm and will undertake work as a General Contractor, Construction Manager or a Design Build Contractor in order to provide a full range of construction services to our clients.
The scope of our work includes Commercial, Institutional, Industrial and High Tech projects. We have completed many types of construction work including new buildings, renovations, fit-ups, green buildings, exterior envelope retrofits, civil work and innovative construction. Ruiter Construction also has experience in various methods of delivery systems including conventional construction, phased work and fast track projects utilizing Sequential Tendering.
In the past, Ruiter has successfully completed projects from $10,000 up to $11.5 million and our present volume is $10 - $20 million per year.
Our strength is our people and of the fourteen permanent employees, eight have been with Ruiter for more than twenty years. Our office staff includes a Professional Engineer and a Civil Engineering Technologist as projects managers and estimators (both Gold Seal Certified), a controller and two support staff. Our site crews include three Superintendents (all with more than 20 years field experience), one foreman, two carpenters and two labourers. The safety of our people and all workers is important to us and we are proud of our excellent Health and Safety record.
Our goal is to develop and maintain solid relationships with our clients, consultants and sub-trades. We pride ourselves on our ability to produce accurate budgets and provide and maintain realistic schedules that comply with Client requirements. Ruiter is committed to quality and superior communications with the client and all other stakeholders to ensure successful completion of all our projects.
Our philosophy is based on the belief that senior management, in a General Contracting firm, should have a strong engineering background as well as extensive practical experience in the field. This professional approach to the construction industry allows for better knowledge and communication with Architects, Consulting Engineers and authorities involved in the projects, resulting in better service and a superior product for the buyer of construction services. It is also our belief that sites are better controlled by site superintendents with a wide range of experience and expertise who can supervise, schedule, monitor and control the complete range of construction activity for projects we undertake.
As a further commitment to the industry, Ted Ruiter and Glenn St. Germain are active on various Construction Associations; Ted Ruiter has served on the Board of Directors of the Ottawa Construction Association for fourteen years and was the Chairman of the Board in 1999. He was also a Director of Canadian Construction Association for four years. Glenn St. Germain has served on the Board of Directors of the General Contractors Association of Ottawa.
